Pork is the most widely eaten meat in the world accounting for over 36% of the world meat intake according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. A piggery farm is a lucrative venture. If you have interest in starting a piggery business or want to improve an existing piggery farm, this course is for you. Our instructors, who are farmers and businessmen themselves, will teach you all the dos and don’ts of the industry and how to set your piggery business up for success in Ghana and beyond.

Session 1: Set up

The A-Z of setting up a piggery business, from land acquisition to purchasing the right type of piglets. What type of production do you have to set up? Do you plan to breed pigs, or to buy young pigs (weaners)?

Session 2: Management

How to consider the right piggery’s production and performance, identify ways to improve your herd, provide your herd with suitable housing, manage your herd’s feeding, monitor environmental issues and be compliant.

Session 3: Running

Everything you need to know about day-to-day management.

Session 4: Financials

Understand the cost requirements for starting, running and turning a profit. Understand how to optimize your piggery business for maximum profitability. Learn how to set up the complete financial model of your piggery business.

Session 5: Marketing, sales and distribution

Get to know the different sales and distribution channels available in the market. Learn how to package and position your product on the shelves. Understand the various pricing techniques. Get to know the different buyers in the market.

Session 6: Field visits

We will visit a farm so you can practice everything you have learned in the classroom.
